What We Stand For
Our Values
These four words aren't branding. They're the criteria we use to make decisions — especially the hard ones.
Most companies have values. Most of them are posted on a wall and never consulted again. Ours are different — not because we're more virtuous, but because we've built them into our decision-making process. Every quarter, every hire, every product decision is evaluated against Joyful, Steward, Swift, and Sovereign. They're the lens we look through when the right answer isn't obvious.
And beneath all four of them runs one thing that makes any of them possible: Trust.
And beneath all four of them runs one thing that makes any of them possible: Trust.
01
Joyful
Happy people build
things worth using.
Joy is not a soft metric. It's a signal. When our employees love their work, it shows up in every pixel, every support interaction, every product decision. When they're miserable, it also shows — usually in the product, first.
We cultivate a culture where people feel genuinely proud of what they're building. Where they'd recommend Drift to their own family members. Where customer service isn't treated as a cost centre to be minimised, but as a relationship to be invested in.
Joyful doesn't mean naive or conflict-avoidant. It means we bring genuine warmth and positive intent to everything we do — with customers, with colleagues, and with ourselves. Hard conversations can be joyful. Saying no can be joyful. It's about the spirit you bring to it.

We hire for curiosity and warmth alongside technical excellence
Customer service is staffed by people who care, given the authority to actually help
Internal metrics include employee wellbeing alongside financial performance
We celebrate small wins and acknowledge the difficulty of hard work
In the Product
Interfaces that feel delightful to use. Animations that feel alive. Copy that sounds like a human wrote it, because one did.
In the Company
Flexible working, genuine autonomy, zero tolerance for soul-crushing bureaucracy. Work should be something you'd choose even if you didn't need the money.
02
Steward
We hold things
in trust, not in possession.
A steward is someone who takes care of something on behalf of others — accepting responsibility for it, improving it, and returning it in better shape. We apply this lens to everything: the environment, the communities we operate in, the customers who trust us, and the supply chains we participate in.
Planned obsolescence is the opposite of stewardship. We reject it. Every Drift device is designed from the ground up to be repaired, upgraded, and used for ten years or more. We publish every service manual publicly. We stock spare parts. We partner with independent repair shops worldwide. If you can't fix it, you don't truly own it.
Environmental stewardship means our manufacturing produces less waste, our packaging is recycled, and our products don't end up in landfills after two years because we stopped supporting the software. Longevity is environmental policy.

Repairability
iFixit repairability score of 9/10. The highest ever awarded to a first-generation device. This was not an accident.
Longevity
We design for the device you'll still be using in 2035. Updates, not replacements. Upgrades, not obsolescence.
03
Swift
Speed is a form
of respect.
When you wait for software to respond, the software is wasting your time. When you wait days for customer support, the company is saying your time matters less than theirs. When a company takes six months to fix a known problem, they're choosing convenience over integrity. We reject all three.
Technical swiftness means our software is engineered for sub-50ms response times on every interaction. Not because it's impressive, but because slowness is friction, and friction is a sign that something's wrong. Every UI element, every data sync, every notification is optimised as if latency is a bug — because it is.
Customer support swiftness means real humans, with real authority to resolve issues, responding in under 30 minutes during business hours. No chatbot gatekeeping. No ticket queues that stretch into days. No "your inquiry is important to us" holding patterns.
Company swiftness means we make decisions quickly, ship often, and adapt to feedback without layers of approval slowing us to a crawl. Small, empowered teams. Clear authority. Bias toward motion.

Built on a custom rendering engine. No electron wrappers. No cross-platform compromises. Native performance, period.
Company Agility
Two-week product cycles. Decisions made at the team level. Bureaucracy treated as a product defect — and fixed accordingly.
04
Sovereign
You own it.
Full stop.
Sovereignty is the most important of our four values because it's the one most frequently violated by the industry we operate in. Most technology companies give you access to a service. They hold the data. They hold the keys. They set the terms. And they can change those terms, delete your account, or sell the company — taking your data with them — at any time.
Drift is different in a way that's architecturally enforced, not just promised. Your data is encrypted with keys that only you possess. Our servers physically cannot read your family vault. If Drift were acquired, shut down, or subpoenaed, your data would remain yours — because we genuinely cannot access it. This is not a policy. It is a mathematical fact.
Sovereignty also means the physical device. You can repair it, resell it, give it to your child, or throw it in a drawer. You don't need our permission to use it. You don't need our servers to function offline. And if you decide to leave Drift, you take everything with you in open, portable formats. No extraction fee. No data hostage situation.

End-to-end encryption: Drift cannot read your data. Audited and verified.
Full data portability: export everything in standard formats at any time, for free
Offline-first architecture: all core functions work without internet access
Open device firmware: you can inspect, modify, or replace the operating system
No subscription required to use hardware you've purchased — it works without Drift
Account deletion is instant, complete, and verified — no 90-day retention windows
Data Sovereignty
Your keys. Your vault. Your terms. We've built a system where betraying your trust isn't just against policy — it's technically impossible.
Device Sovereignty
Unlocked bootloader. Open firmware. Repair-friendly. You bought it. It's yours — not on lease, not on licence.
The Foundation
All four pillars
rest on Trust.
Joyful, Steward, Swift, Sovereign — each of these is a commitment. But commitments require credibility, and credibility is built through one thing: consistently doing the right thing, especially when it's inconvenient.
Trust is not claimed. It's accumulated. It grows one honest interaction at a time, one kept promise at a time, one "we got that wrong and here's what we're doing about it" at a time. We have made mistakes. We will make more. What we will never do is hide them, minimise them, or hope you don't notice.
This is not lofty language. It has practical implications: we publish our audit results whether they're flattering or not. We proactively inform members about any security issue that could affect them. We fix the thing before we spin the thing. That's what trust looks like, operationally.
